Gilbert buys West Fort Street building in downtown Detroit for $5 million

Dan Gilbert has purchased another downtown Detroit building on Fort Street.

Atwater Acquisitions LLC, an entity incorporated in April 2016 tied to the billionaire real estate and mortgage mogul, bought the former Comerica Bank building at 201 W. Fort St. at Shelby Street in late November for $5 million, according to city land records.

The Detroit Free Press first reported the sale of the building, the former Detroit Trust Co. building, Tuesday morning. It went on the market in 2016 with the Southfield office of Los Angeles-based CBRE Inc. having the sales listing, Crain’s reported at the time.
