State awards Amazon $4.5 million for Shelby Township warehouse
Amazon’s plans for a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Shelby Township is receiving a $4.5 million boost from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The MEDC is providing the Seattle-based e-commerce giant a performance-based grant for the project, which is expected to create $40 million in capital investment and 1,025 new jobs, according to an MEDC news release.
The incentive is intended to offset costs related to talent recruitment and road improvements around the site, former home of a Visteon Corp. auto parts plant. Macomb County is footing a $10 million cleanup of the contaminated site, county Executive Mark Hackel told Crain’s earlier this month.
